SXSW 2011

“Sxchedule”

This is great for scheduling! This site has interactive, film, music (official and many unofficial), parties (official and some unofficial) Unofficial SXSW 2011 Schedule

Here’s my “sxchedule”.

Listen

Stream SXSW music (or download the 4.5 GB torrent legally and free!). This is really great. I’ve been jamming it out during my workday.

Here are some songs from SXSW Artists that I enjoyed:

  • Body LanguageYou Can (Funky but spacy electro with etherial vocals.  Trancy but engaging – catchy as hell)
  • Sonodaband Soul River 2010 (Disco + cheese, no vox – heavy on strings)
  • Hundreds Happy Virus (Straight groove, chick singer, catchy, electro highlights)
  • Admiral FallowSqueling Pigs (Irish music!  He even has the accent – catchy chorus – worth seeing!)
  • Delicate SteveThe Ballad of Speck and Pebble
  • WhoMadeWho Keep Me in the Plane (Melodic straight funky groove)
  • The Bright Light Social HourBack and Forth (fun dancy music – you will move)
  • Eli Paperboy Reed and the True LoveCome and Get it (Soul!)
  • Julianna BarwickWhite Flag (Cool modern choral music without religious overtones)
  • The Civil WarsBarton Hallow (Dark male/female vocal harmonies, melodic, low twang)
  • The OrbansNew Dress (Catchy rock song)
  • French Horn RebellionUp All Night (electro-poppy dance music – very fun)

Thoughts

Is anyone else disappointed with the SXSW site?  It has been such a pain finding listening samples.  Has anyone else noticed that you have to use “SXSW 2011” to Google anything?  If you omit the year, you find a bunch of old stuff.  On a positive note, I really do like the SXSW mobile app.

I bought a wristband this year – I hope I can put it to good use!  I really really really really wish I could go to the SXSW Interactive seminars and talks.  Just reading the descriptions has been eye opening in some cases.  My goal is to save up and commit to buying a badge for next year [maybe I’ll be working for a company that will pay me to go].

Check out my friends’ bands playing SXSW:
